Biofuel Technology

We are focusing on processing technology to establish sustainable biodiesel production from Jatropha, Castor, Animal fat-based, and waste cooking oil, utilizing locally sourced or to be sourced feedstocks and catalysts to develop novel technology. This includes, production of biodiesel from the alternative biological sources, its fuel properties analysis, and engine performance analysis. Hence, our primary concerns are in:

  • Jatropha oil
  • Waste Cooking oil
  • Castor oil
  • Animal fat

Biomass Laboratory

We are also working on effective utilization of biomass wastes, agro, forest, or household or municipal waste to make energy commodities or manure as follows:

  • Biochar for agricultural productivity and wastewater treatment
  • Green synthesis of nanomaterials from invasive plants

Ongoing research activities include the identification of plants, particularly invasive plants, that are suitable for producing biochar and green nanomaterials.

Plastic to Fuel Technology

We have also established a 1 kg and 10 kg waste plastic-to-fuel conversion laboratory. The following are the ongoing activities in this laboratory:

  • An experiment is going on to produce fuel from different types of waste plastics.
  • We aim to calculate the cost-benefit analysis of waste-plastics to fuel conversion plant and compare it with the landfill disposal method of waste plastic that is currently practicing by Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
  • We are planning to test the fuel on vehicles.
