Faculty of Technology - A brief overview
I welcome you all to this page, which introduces you to the activities carried out under the Faculty of Technology at NAST. The Faculty of Technology has evolved with the added and modified activities that help in diffusing modern and appropriate technologies in our societies in tackling the existing problems and capacity building to contribute to the overall development of the country.  Our activities range from documentation and modernization of indigenous technologies to research and adoption of emerging technologies. Each member associated with the faculty is equally significant and responsible for the growth and smooth functioning of its activities. In the past, the activities under the Faculty were mainly focused on renewable energy technologies. It has its glorious past of popularizing Solar Photovoltaic Technologies in Nepal, starting from Solar lamp to Solar water pumping systems in Nepal, connecting them to the people’s daily needs. Similarly, in the field of Bioenergy, this Faculty was fully dedicated to the research and development of Bio-briquettes, which in later times also expanded to Biofuel research and development. It has also extended its activities from Small Hydro Power research to wind mapping in different parts of the country. Hands-on training for High School Science Teachers organized by the Instrumentation Center of Faculty for more than two decades has been popular among the teachers. In recent years, the Faculty has taken the lead in initiating activities in Emerging Technologies such as Nanotechnology, Space Technology, Information and Communication Technology (Currently under S &T Information System Center), and Fuel Cell Technology. In order to contribute to the societal need for waste management, the faculty currently focuses on research and development activities, especially focused on solid waste management incorporating the Waste to Energy drive.  In the aftermath of Gorkha Earthquake, the Faculty aggressively got orientated towards the activities on Disaster Risk Reduction / Management, which was initiated with the experimentation on Earthquake Early Warning System, which went on expanding to different natural disasters prevailing in the country such as Landslide, Flood, and Lightning.

Following the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Faculty geared up its activities on Technology Innovation in different forms ranging from Innovation Grant Distribution to capacity development for in-house innovation.
After the inauguration of the newly built Technology Building as modern infrastructure with ample space to accommodate facilities and human resources, the faculty has planned to introduce research and development on sustainable physical infrastructures such as Building, Roads, Bridges, Tunnels, Dams, Transmission Lines, etc.

The Faculty proudly manifests its international collaboration with different institutions of friendly countries such as Japan (NRDC, NEDO, JICA, Kyutech, U of Tokyo), the Republic of Korea (KOICA, NIA ), China  ( YASTI, TTC, ICL, HRC), USA ( ASU),  and India ( ISRO, CSIR) and also thanks the senior experts from Japan, Korea, and China who contributed for the growth of the Faculty.

Currently, the Faculty of Technology emphasizes core Technology research leading to publications and patents, the development of an innovation ecosystem by creating a Makerspace, Technology transfer through frequent exchange of ideas via seminars, outreach activities, and the capacity development of its members through refresher training. Finally, I thank you for going through the page and heartily welcome your feedback and constructive criticism related to our activities, which will make us grow better in the days ahead.
