NAST is leading efforts to identify, document, validate, and promote Nepal’s indigenous technologies, traditional knowledge systems, and cultural heritage. By combining conventional methods with advanced digital tools, ranging from field documentation of vernacular architecture to immersive virtual reality, we aim to preserve these invaluable resources and integrate them into modern scientific and innovative frameworks, ensuring they are accessible, understood, and meaningfully applied.

About the Program

Vision:
To strengthen national identity and promote self-reliance through the preservation, development, and promotion of Nepal’s indigenous technologies and traditional knowledge systems.

Mission:
Document and scientifically assess Nepal’s heritage-based technologies and cultural practices for integration into modern development, disaster resilience, and innovation.

Key Goals:

Document and digitize Nepal’s architectural, cultural, and technological heritage to ensure its preservation and accessibility.
Promote traditional knowledge by fostering research, encouraging innovation, and facilitating public engagement.
Support the sustainable use of indigenous materials and methods to strengthen local livelihoods and environmental resilience.
Integrate traditional practices with modern scientific approaches to develop practical, effective solutions for contemporary challenges.
